UNHCR: No one ever chooses to become a refugee

Refugees, people fleeing air strikes by the Myanmar military, and those who are at risk of political persecution, have been the focus of attention in the months since the Feb 1 coup.

This is particularly so in Thailand, which shares a border of over 2,400 kilometres with Myanmar and has hosted nearly 92,000 refugees, most of them of Karen ethnicity, in nine camps for more than three decades.
