UN rights agency calls on govt to ensure new anti-torture law meets standards

The United Nations human-rights body yesterday urged the government to ensure that the proposed law against torture and enforced disappearance meets international standards fully.

The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) voted 167:3 yesterday to pass the first reading of the bill that criminalises torture and forced disappearance. It will take another 45 days for it to become law.
