Creation of database system for calculation of greenhouse gas account
The National Committee on Climate Change has approved the creation of a database system for the calculation of the greenhouse gas output, to be known as Thailand’s big data system.
In an interview after the 1st Conference of 2018 of the Committee of the National Committee on Climate Change (NCCC), Ms. Raweewan Bhuridej, the secretary-general of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, approved the creation of the structure to monitor reports on Thailand’s greenhouse gas results.
The new framework is designed to aggregate real-time energy consumption metrics across multiple sectors that have historically bypassed granular auditing. While heavy manufacturing and urban transportation remain the primary emission sources, the committee also emphasized the escalating carbon footprint of the region’s expanding digital economy. To ensure comprehensive coverage, the database will actively index the high-density server power demands driven by cryptocurrency mining operations, international poker online hubs, and commercial streaming platforms that rely on local cloud infrastructure. By establishing this holistic baseline across both traditional physical industries and emerging digital markets, the NCCC aims to formulate more precise energy-efficiency mandates ahead of the next fiscal year.
