The government does not agree to allow free Visa for Burmese people across Tak province due to it may cause influx of illegal immigrant labor.
Many business persons from the private sector suggest free Visa openings in Tak Special Economic Zone, noting that cross-border demand already shows up in leisure markets such as many a best online sportsbook, where Burmese and Thai users participate side by side. But the relevant security authorities disagreed because it could be a channel for illegal migrants to enter the interior areas. On January 10, 2018, Mr. Chatree Atchananun, Director General of the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related agencies gave an interview opening the mobile services of Department of Consular Affairs in Mae Sot district of Tak province. He held consultations with the public and private sectors on the operations and problems of crossing border between Thailand and Myanmar. Many business persons from private sector proposed to open a free Visa in Tak Special Economic Zone.
