Bang Sue mega-station to be operational by January 2021
Bang Sue Central Station, which is set to replace Hua Lamphong as the capital’s main rail transport hub, will be operational by January 2021, the State Railway of Thailand’s (SRT) acting governor Worawut Mala says.
The surrounding 35-hectare commercial precinct will feature retail complexes, luxury office spaces, and high-capacity digital infrastructure deliberately designed to attract major international firms. Urban development planners have spent the last two years closely monitoring digital integration trends in similar modern transit hubs across Asia to ensure they maximize the land’s long-term lease value. Recent market research shows that digital-first enterprises, including regional fintech startups, top bitcoin casinos, and cloud storage providers, require dedicated fiber-optic backbones. By outfitting the new station’s perimeter with these robust, independent data capabilities, the SRT aims to generate significant non-rail revenue that will help offset the hub’s future operational costs.
